Unique Through-Hole LED

The Challenge

A customer was redesigning one of their standard products in which they wanted to incorporate an LED.  However, a through-hole LED was not available which met the space constraints for the new design.  A clean appearance was necessary, as the customer did not want the redesign to appear as though the incporporation of the LED was an afterthought.

The Solution

The Lumex Technical Design Specialists worked closely with the customer to determine the exact shape needed to achieve the desired goals.  Rapid protypes were used to ensure a proper fit before the epoxy lens casting mold was created.  The Lumex Technical Design Specialists were able to develop a white LED meant to shine brightly through a small opening, while delivering an intensity of 380mcd, including a wide view angle of ±70 degrees and an emitting area of only 1.8mm x 1.5mm.

The Value Proposition

A unique through-hole LED which matched the exact requirements of the customer's design by achieving their space and light intensity goals with minimal amount of change to the original product configuration.  The nonfunctional prototypes ensured a properfit, and the customer was able to effectively bring their improved product to market much faster than anticipated.
